We are the Kostrzewas. A happy little family living in New Orleans, LA making our old house into a newly designed home with our personal touches on it. We have been married 3 years, and we are proud parents to a 1 year old, Avery Elizabeth.
Ken works for our church coordinating volunteers doing relief work in the city, post Hurricane Katrina. Melanie is a 4th grade reading and writing teacher at a public school. Avery is a full time ball of energy with a busy schedule.
When we aren't at our day jobs, Ken takes great joy in remodeling our 90 old double shotgun house in the Freret neighborhood, doing about 80% of the job himself. We hope to move in to the upgraded side soon, and rent out the side we live on currently.
Melanie loves to play with Avery, bake cookies, read blogs, and try her hand at some crafty things. She recently learned to sew and finds great pleasure and frustration at figuring out an outdated machine.
Avery enjoys reading books, saying Hi to everyone she sees, and pointing at dogs.
When not doing those things, our family can be found at church with our dearest friends, walking around Freret street, swinging and the many parks in our city, eating at the best restaurants, or watching Friday Night Lights for the third time. (That's just Melanie.)
We dream of one day owning a small business on Freret Street, we just don't know what we would do yet. We also want a bunch a chickens and more kids. The future is looking bright!
